Is Bob ok?

Hi Charles, Bob hasn't checked in with Vox Mortuis for nearly four weeks. If he doesn't checkin within the next four days, Vox Mortuis is going to send his final instructions to the rest of his family. If he really is ok, can you please checkin for him by clicking on the link below. Checking in for him will re-start the whole sequence, so please don't click the link unless you are sure he is ok.

A message from Bob

Hi Sue, It's been a month since I last checked in with Vox Mortuis, so I guess something has happened to me. To get access to my various online accounts, you need to get access to an encrypted document on my laptop. Get my black laptop from the study and go to a folder called Bobdata, then docs, then admin, then open the file called Bob1.doc - the password is sus1e. Everything you need to know is in that document.

Hi Charles, It's been a month since I last checked in with Vox Mortuis, so I guess something has happened to me. You'll be needing the combination for the safe in my office, it's 21347.

There are several important points here.

  • You can send emails to different people at different times, up to a whole year from your last checkin.
  • Your emails can include your checkin link to create a foolproof sequence that will not release your final instructions prematurely, even if you are unable to checkin yourself.
  • The number of events and the timing of the entire process is completely up to you. It depends on how "online" you are.

You can include whatever personal messages you like, but the information you store with us should be of no value to anyone except your own friends and family.

Since you never enter your physical address into our system, information like safe combinations and local computer passwords are completely meaningless to anyone except your friends and family. You don't even have to give us your real name, so even if our database was compromised, your instructions would be meaningless to anyone except their intended recipients. You can devise all kinds of mechanisms to securely pass online passwords, for example storing half the password in an event email, and the other half in a physical location that can only be found by your friends or family.
